The Sporades regional district ( Greek Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Σποράδων Periferiaki Enotita Sporadon ) is one of five regional districts in the Greek region of Thessaly . It was formed on the occasion of the administrative reform in 2010 from the three island communities of the former Magnisia prefecture and thus includes the islands of the Northern Sporades off the Pelion Peninsula . This corresponds to the area of the Skopelos Province, which existed in the Magnisia Prefecture until 1997 . In proportion to its 13,556 inhabitants, the area sends a deputy to the regional council of Thessaly, but has no further political significance as a regional authority. It is divided into the three islands and municipalities of Alonissos , Skiathos and Skopelos .
