West Macedonia , also West Macedonia , ( Greek Δυτική Μακεδονία , Dytikí Makedonía ) is one of the 13 regions of Greece and the western part of the geographical region Macedonia . The capital of the region is Kozani .
Regional districts and municipalities
The West Macedonia region is divided into four regional districts, which correspond to the areas of the prefectures that existed until 2010. In proportion to their population, they send a certain number of MPs to the 51-member regional council.

Compared with the GDP of the EU expressed in purchasing power standards reached Western Macedonia in 2006 an index of 76.0 (EU-27 = 100).
The region has the highest unemployment in the entire European Union . In 2017 the unemployment rate was 29.1%.
Antiquity
West Macedonia is largely congruent with the ancient geographic region of Upper Macedonia .
