The regional district Magnisia ( Greek Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Μαγνησίας Periferiaki Enotita Magnisias ) is one of five regional districts in the Greek region of Thessaly . It was formed on the occasion of the 2010 administrative reform from the mainland area of ​​the former Magnisia prefecture . In proportion to its 193,439 inhabitants, the area sends 13 members to the regional council of Thessaloniki, but has no further political significance as a regional authority. It is divided into the five municipalities of Almyros , Notio Pilio , Rigas Fereos , Volos and Zagora-Mouresi .

Since the administrative reform in 2010 with effect from January 1, 2011, the prefecture has been divided into two regional districts - the Sporades form a separate regional district . Eight large communities were formed from the 26 communities that existed until then, three of which belong to the Sporades.
