Nea Anchialos ( Greek Νέα Αγχίαλος , ( f. Sg. )) Was until 2010 a municipality in the prefecture of Magnisia in the administrative region of Thessaly . With the administrative reform in 2010 , it was incorporated into Volos , where it has since formed one of nine municipal districts.

Nea Anchialos is located on the coast of the Pagasitic Gulf , southwest of the center of Volos , northeast of Almyros , southwest of Esonia and south of Feres .

history
At the site of today's city of Nea Anchialos was the city of Pyrassos in ancient times , which was already mentioned by Homer . There was a Demeter temple there . Pyrassus was founded in 217 BC. Destroyed by Philip V of Macedonia .
Nea Anchialos was founded in 1906 by refugees from Anchialos (today: Pomorie ) and Burgas in Bulgaria. The city is laid out in an almost completely rectangular grid-like plan. In 1912 it received its recognition as a rural community (kinotita).
On April 20, 1943, the town was badly damaged by the Italian occupying forces and on April 30, 1954 by the Sofades earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 to 7.0 on the Richter scale .
In 1955 the place was connected to the national power grid. In 1997 the villages of Aidinio and Mikrothives were incorporated and Nea Anchialos was raised to the status of a municipality (dimos) .

The Nea Anchialos Airport is also the airport of Volos . There is also a military airfield nearby. Nea Anchialos has a popular beach and a marina.
