Lothar Oppermann

Lothar Oppermann (born October 23, 1930 in Glogau ; † 2019 in Berlin ) was head of the popular education department of the SED Central Committee from 1963 to 1989 .

Life

Oppermann, the son of a worker , was relocated to the Soviet occupation zone with his family in 1945 . In Grimma , Oppermann completed his schooling in 1949 with the Abitur . After joining the SED in 1950 , he studied mathematics and physics at the University of Leipzig . In 1956 he completed his studies with the state examination as a certified teacher. He then worked at various schools as a teacher and later as a research assistant and lecturer at the Institute for Education. In 1961 Oppermann was promoted to Dr. paed. PhD. In 1962 he became deputy director of the German Central Pedagogical Institute . In February 1963, he followed Werner Neugebauer as head of the Public Education Department of the Central Committee of the SED, he to turn remained 1989th From 1970 on Oppermann was a full member of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the GDR .

Lothar Oppermann was a member of the Society for the Protection of Civil Rights and Human Dignity and was active in the Berlin-Pankow local association to the end .
