The municipality of Zagora-Mouresi ( Greek Ζαγορά-Μουρέσι ) on the Greek peninsula Pelion in the Thessaly region was formed on January 1, 2011 from the merger of the municipalities of Zagora and Mouresi established in 1997 . Since then, these have formed municipal districts (Ez. Gr. Dimotiki enotita ), the municipalities prior to 1997 form a city district (gr. Dimotiki kinotita ) and eight local communities (gr. Topiki kinotita ), which elect their own local representatives.

geography

Zagora-Mouresi is located in the north of the Pelion peninsula, on the eastern slope of Mount Pilio (Πήλιο), which gave the peninsula its name and its highest peak, the Pourianos Stavros (Πουριανός Σταυρός, 1624 m above sea level) of the village of Pouri. The municipality drops off relatively steeply to the east towards the Aegean Sea , but there are four longer sandy beaches on the approximately 20 km long coast. The coastal municipality bordering to the north is Rigas Fereos , in the south Zagora-Mouresi borders the municipality of Notio Pilio . On the western slope of the Pilio, the municipality of Volos borders the urban area.

City seal

The seal of the community shows a centaur , which alludes to the Pilio as the mythical home of these beings.
