The Kos regional district ( Greek Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Κω Periferiaki Enotita Ko ) is one of 13 regional districts in the Greek South Aegean region . It was formed on the occasion of the administrative reform in 2010 from four island communities of the former Dodecanese prefecture and corresponds exactly to the area of ​​the former Kos province , which existed until 1997. In proportion to its 34,396 inhabitants, the area sends five members to the regional council, but has no further political significance as a local authority. Today it is divided into the two communities Kos and Nisyros .
