Argalasti was recognized as a rural community (kinotita) in 1912 and upgraded to urban community (dimos) in 1997 with the incorporation of Metochi and Xinovrysi . With the administrative reform in 2010 , it was merged with four other municipalities on the Pilio Peninsula to form the new municipality of Notio Pilio ('South Pelion').
