The Greek prefecture of Samos ( Greek Σάμος ) was one of three prefectures in the administrative region of the North Aegean until 2010 . It was formed in 1915 from the islands of Samos and Ikaria (Ικαριά) and the Fourni Korseon archipelago (Φούρνοι Κορσνων) in the eastern Aegean . The administrative center of the prefecture was the city of Samos (Σάμος ( f. Sg. )) On the island of the same name. With the Greek administrative reform in 2010 , the prefecture was abolished and divided into two regional districts ( Ez.gr.periferiaki enotita ) Samos (the island and municipality of Samos) and Ikaria (the municipalities of Ikaria and Fourni), which apart from the allocation of seats for the regional council have no political significance.

Municipalities 1997–2010

The prefecture was divided into eight communities (singular gr. Dimos δήμος).
