The municipality of Karlovasia ( Greek Δημοτική Ενότητα Καρλοβασίων Dimotikí Enótita Karlovasíon ) is one of two municipalities of the municipality of Dytiki Samos on the Greek island of Samos in the North Aegean region . It emerged from the former municipality of Karlovasia and is divided into a city district and nine local communities.

The municipality of Karlovasia was founded in 1952 and from 1997 to 2010 it was one of four municipalities in the Greek prefecture of Samos on the island of Samos . Almost two thirds of the 9,590 community residents lived in the town of Karlovasi , which was the administrative seat of the community.

The municipality extends in the northwest of the island on an area of ​​100,330 square kilometers. Neighboring parishes are Vathy and Pythagorio in the east and Marathokambos in the south.

history

The municipality of Karlovasia (Δήμος Καρλοβασίων) was formed in 1952 from the rural communities ( Kinotites Κοινότητες) Paleo Karlovasi , Meseo Karlovasi and Neo Karlovasi , which had existed since 1918 . Through the merger with another nine rural communities as a result of the community reform in 1997 , the community received its final size. With the administrative reform in 2010 , Karlovasia became a municipality in the municipality of Samos , which encompassed the entire island and in which the former municipality formed the municipality of Karlovasia . The administrative seat was the small town of Karlovasi . By dividing the island into two municipalities, the municipality of Dytiki Samos was added.
