Vourliotes ( Greek Βουρλιώτες ( m. Pl. )) Is a village in the north of the Greek island of Samos . The village is located about 3.5 km southeast of Agios Konstandinos and about 4 km west of Kokkari at an altitude of about 360 m on the northern slope of the Ambelos Mountains . Together with the coastal settlements of Avlakia (Αυλάκια 18) and Kambos (Κάμπος 91) as well as the Moni Vronda monastery (Μονή Βροντά 16), Vourliotes has 501 inhabitants.
Since the village was first mentioned under the name Urla in Ottoman documents in 1601, it is assumed that the first inhabitants came from Vourla in Asia Minor . Originally, the first settlers first settled near Paleochori , where the remains of an older settlement and the small church of Osia Matrona (Οσία Ματρώνα) are still preserved today. The veneration of Osia Matrona , a saint from the island of Chios , is an indication of the repopulation of Samos in the second half of the 16th century by so-called Chiosamii (Χιοσάμιοι), descendants of Samiots who formerly migrated to Chios.
About two kilometers south of Vourliotes at an altitude of 460 meters is Moni Vronda (Μονή Βροντά). The oldest monastery on the island, founded in 1566, was destroyed in the forest fires in 2000.
Due to the abundance of water, Vourliotes is surrounded by lush vegetation with pine forests and vineyards. To this day the village has kept its traditional appearance. The wine-growing is the main source of income of the population, besides Vourliotes is a popular destination for hikers and mountain bikers.
With the implementation of the municipality reform according to the Kapodistrias program in 1997, Vourliotes was incorporated into the municipality of Vathy . After the merger of the former municipalities of the island after the administrative reform in 2010 to form the municipality of Samos ( Δήμος Σάμου Dímos Sámou ), the correction in 2019 in two municipalities means that the place belongs to the municipality of Anatoliki Samos .
