Despite the name, Neochori is one of the oldest villages on the island and was mentioned as early as 1702 by the French explorer Tournefort . Neochori is an agricultural place, the main income of the inhabitants is in the production of olive oil.

With the implementation of the municipality reform according to the Kapodistrias program in 1997, Neochori was incorporated into the municipality of Marathokambos . After the merger of the former municipalities of the island after the administrative reform in 2010 to form the municipality of Samos ( Δήμος Σάμου Dímos Sámou ), Neochori is now divided into two municipalities in 2019 as part of the municipality of Dytiki Samos .
