The village of Pandroso ( Greek Πάνδροσο ( n. Sg. )) , Located in the center of the Greek island of Samos , also forms the local community Pandroso (Τοπική Κοινότητα Πανδρόσου) in the municipality of Pythagorio .
location
Pandroso is located on the south side of the Ambelos Mountains , to the east a little above the Mesogio at an altitude of over 600 meters, making it the highest village on the island. Neighboring local communities Pandrosos (Τοπική Κοινότητα Πανδρόσου) are in the north Vourliotes of the municipality Vathy in the east Mavratzei , in the south Koumaradei in the west Pyrgos and Mesogio.
history
The village was probably founded with the resettlement of Samos in 1562. The first written record dates from 1677. Because of the foreign language, the inhabitants of the neighboring villages called the villages of Pandroso and Mesogio and their inhabitants as Arnaouts or Arvanites (Αρβανίτες, Albanians') . Attica was assumed to be the place of origin at that time , later the Cycladic island of Tinos due to the linguistic similarity . Because of the phylloxera disaster in the late 19th century and the loss of livelihoods, many residents were forced to leave the island and emigrate to America, Australia and Europe.
As Kinotita Ano Arvaniton (Κοινότητα Άνω Αρβανιτών) the village formed an independent rural community since 1918. The official renaming of Ano Arvanite (Άνω Αρβανίται "Upper Arvanite") to Pandroso took place in 1960. The implementation of the municipality reform according to the Kapodistrias program in 1997 led to the incorporation into the municipality of Pythagorio . With the administrative reform in 2010 , the former municipalities of the island were merged into the newly created municipality of Samos ( Dimos Samou Δήμος Σάμου). Since then, Pandroso has had the status of a local community (Τοπική Κοινότητα).
