Spatharei ( Greek Σπαθαραίοι ( m. Pl. )) Is a village in the south of the Greek island of Samos in the municipality of Pythagorio . Due to the location on the western slopes of the Karvounis Mountains at an altitude of about 580 meters, there is a view of the southwest of the island, the neighboring islands of the Fourni group and Ikaria and further to the islands of the Dodecanese . According to the 2011 census, the village had 236 inhabitants. Another eight coastal settlements belonging to the village emerged from the 1970s and, together with the small island of Samiopoula, had 101 inhabitants.
Spatharei was one of the most important olive producers on the island. The area up to the neighboring village of Skoureika in the municipality of Marathokambos and the coast was characterized by olive cultures until the fires in summer 1993. Another fire in July 2000 destroyed the forests around the village and 95% of the villagers' olive trees.

Spatharei received the status of a rural community in 1918 (Κοινότητα Σπαθαραίων), at the same time the island of Samiopoula was incorporated. From 1971 the incorporation of the other settlements was carried out. The incorporation of the rural community Spatharei (Κοινότητα Σπαθαραίων) into the community Pythagorio took place in 1997 through the implementation of the community reform according to the Kapodistrias program . As of January 1, 2011, the 2010 administrative reform will merge the former municipalities of the island into the newly created municipality of Samos ( Dimos Samou Δήμος Σάμου).
