The village of Drakei ( Greek Δρακαίοι ( m. Pl. )) Is located in the northwest of the Greek island of Samos on the northern foothills of the Kerkis at about 300 m altitude. Drakei has 89 inhabitants, the small coastal settlement of Agios Isidoros (Όρμος Αγίου Ισιδώρου) 23 inhabitants.
The oldest evidence in the place are the frescoes from the 13th century in the cemetery church of Agios Georgios, one of the oldest churches on the island. During the hegemony Drakei formed the municipality Kalabachtasi (Δήμος Καλαμπαχτασίων) together with Prinia .
Drakei is the most remote village on Samos and can only be reached via Kallithea. In the hope of building a road to the closer town of Karlovasi , the residents decided against belonging to Marathokambos . Road construction has been required for around 30 years. There is a bus connection only twice a week.
The inhabitants live almost exclusively from growing olives and also keep animals. In the past, charcoal was also produced in the area. Agios Isidoros is one of the last Kaíki shipyards in the Aegean Sea.
With the implementation of the municipality reform according to the Kapodistrias program in 1997, Drakei was incorporated into the municipality of Karlovasia. The 2010 administrative reform brought the former municipalities of the island together to form the municipality of Samos . Since the correction of the administrative reform in 2019 in two municipalities, Drakei belongs to the municipality of Dytiki Samos .
Due to the remote location, the population decline, which has persisted for years, has led to an aging of the village.
