Lyfe Jennings (born June 3, 1978 in Toledo , Ohio ; real name Chester Jennings Lyfe ) is an American R&B musician and rapper from Los Angeles .

Career

In his youth, Lyfe Jennings was in the church choir and played with brother and cousins in a band called The Dotsons . But then he became a criminal and was imprisoned for a long time for arson. While in detention, he studied music extensively and recorded a demo CD two days after his release. He performed as a singer with acoustic guitar and successfully sold his CD. And he got offers from record labels and signed with Columbia in New York. His debut album Lyfe 268-192 , named after his prisoner number , was released a year and a half after the end of his prison sentence . The album was very successful, staying on the Billboard 200 for over a year and selling over a million copies. The single Must Be Nice made it into the Top 40 of the Hot 100 and was also a million seller. For this both received a platinum award .

The Phoenix and Lyfe Change albums followed every two years , with Jennings reaching number one on the R&B charts and the top five on the official sales charts. Then he announced that he would release one last album in 2010. For I Still Believe he was able to win some well-known musicians such as Fabolous , Ludacris , Anthony Hamilton and Jazmine Sullivan . Nevertheless, the success of the album lagged behind that of its predecessors.

During this period, he was tried again because of domestic disputes and was sent to prison again. When he was released, he released another album in 2013 called Lucid .
