Jazmine Marie Sullivan (born April 9, 1987 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American R&B and soul singer.

biography

Jazmine Sullivan began singing in the church choir and was noticed early on with her singing qualities. She first appeared in a talent competition on national television when she was eleven. After she began performing in her hometown of Philadelphia, she was introduced to Stevie Wonder . There was a joint singing and an appearance on Wonder's annual show in Los Angeles.

After that, record labels began to be interested in her and at the age of 15 she signed her first contract, which was terminated after two years without publication. For this, the collaboration began with Missy Elliott , who she helped in 2004 with the production of Fantasia's debut album . In addition, she also developed as a songwriter and wrote, for example, the lyrics to the hit Say I by Christina Milian .

This was followed by a record deal with J Records and the production of their self-written debut album. In 2008 she had her big breakthrough with her debut single Need U Bad , which was created with the support of Missy Elliott. It reached number 1 on the US R&B charts and was also able to place in the top 40 of the official US charts . The second publication, Bust Your Windows , was also a hit. The album Fearless also made it to number 1 on the R&B charts and into the top 10 of the overall charts.

Jazmine Sullivan was one of the most successful new discoveries of 2008 and was nominated for five Grammy Awards (for Best New Artist and in four R&B categories).
