Christina Milian
Christina Milian (born September 26, 1981 in Jersey City , New Jersey ; actually Christine Flores ) is an American singer , actress , songwriter and entrepreneur of Cuban origin.
Life and career start
Christina Milian was born as the eldest daughter of Cuban parents. She has two siblings, Danielle and Elizabeth. After she was born, the family moved to Waldorf , Maryland . When she was just four years old, she showed an interest in show business , so five years later she auditioned for talent agencies. Milian started acting, initially in commercials for Wendy's, among others . Her mother saw her potential and moved to Los Angeles , California with her children , but the relationship between Milian's parents suffered, especially since her father stayed in Maryland and divorced her mother after moving. In the new town, Milian moved to a neighborhood where songwriter and music producer Rodney Jerkins also lives. The latter heard her sing at a performance, so they began to work together. At the age of 17 she started writing songs with him for a year and a half.
Career
Music career
Milian first appeared musically in 2000 in the song Between Me & You by Ja Rule . The single made it to number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned her a record deal with Def Jam Recordings . She then traveled to Sweden to record her self-titled debut album Christina Milian . The publication in the United States was postponed due to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 , which occurred two weeks before the actual publication. Her record label decided to release the album at the end of the same year. However, Milian felt that new artists wouldn't put out albums during this time. The release was delayed again until the artist decided not to bring out her debut album in the USA . In Europe it was released on October 9, 2001 and reached number 23 in Great Britain and was able to sell over 100,000 times there, so that it was awarded silver . In early 2002 the album was released in Japan and made it into the top 20 of the album charts. The first single, AM to PM, climbed into the top 10 in many European charts and was also featured in the comedy Hot Chick - Verrückte Hühner . The second single When You Look at Me was able to surpass the success of the previous song and reached number 13 in the single charts in Germany and Austria . In the United Kingdom, both singles made it to third place. At the end of 2002, Milian could be heard in the song It's All Gravy by the British rapper Romeo. Furthermore she controls with Call Me, Beep Me! the theme song for the Disney series Kim Possible .
In the summer of 2004, she released her second album It's About Time on her new record label Island Records . It reached the top 15 in the United States and number 21 in the UK album charts. In total, the album sold 450,000 times in both countries and was nominated at the Grammy Awards in 2005 in the Best Contemporary R&B Album category. The first single Dip It Low was recorded with the American rapper Fabolous . In the US, the single made it into the top 5 and in the United Kingdom even to number 2 in the charts. There is also a version with Samy Deluxe , which was published in Germany, Austria and Switzerland , for example . There is also a solo version of the song that has appeared in several other countries. The second single Whatever U Want was recorded with Joe Budden and climbed to the top 10 of the singles chart in Great Britain.
On April 19, 2006 Milian released her third album So Amazin ' , which climbed to number 11 on the album charts in the United States. It sold over 50,000 times in the first week. Also shortly after the release, the artist was no longer under contract with her record label Island Records . The only single, Say I , was recorded with Jeezy and made it to number 4 in the UK. At the end of the same year, Milian's first compilation album, Best Of , was released, which contains a collection of her most famous songs. It was only released in Japan, where it reached number 29 as the highest position. It sold almost 40,000 times.
She has been working on her fourth album since 2008, but the release has been postponed several times. At the American Music Awards in 2010, she announced that it would be ready the following year, which again has not yet happened. Together with the Stafford Brothers and Lil Wayne , she recorded the song Hello .
Acting career and songwriting
Milian made her acting debut in the US sitcom Sister, Sister in 1996 . In 1999 she was seen in other series, including in Clueless - The Chaos Clique , in Six Under One Roof , in Charmed - Magic Witches and in The Amanda Show . The first movie role she had in the movie American Pie - As a hot apple pie and her first lead role in Love Do not Cost a Thing . She then starred in films such as Hart am Limit , The Lord of the House , Be Cool , Pulse and The Womanizer - The Night of Ex-Girlfriends . She also made guest appearances in Smallville , CSI: Vegas, and A Gifted Man . In 2008 she starred as Carmen Mendez in the video game Need for Speed: Undercover .
