Controversy
Allegations against Eminem
In 2019, Cannon continued his more than ten-year argument with Eminem by stressing in September 2019 that he had challenged Eminem to a wrestling match in 2010 and had not entered it. Thereupon Eminem mentioned him on a Fat Joe track ( Lord Above ) in December 2019. Shortly after each other, Cannon released three Disstracks in December 2019, on which Suge Knight, arrested for murder, can be heard with audio messages. The diss tracks The invitation (December 9, 2019), Pray for him (December 10, 2019) and The invitation canceled (December 19, 2019) were each published as Worldstarhiphop Exclusive and quickly garnered millions of hits. On the third track, Cannon accused Eminem of being a racist who had released two tracks with derogatory remarks about African American women 31 years earlier (1988). Eminem had already apologized for these tracks more than ten years earlier as part of his controversy with Benzino , because they were created as a result of a breakup as a teenager. In addition, Cannon referred to Eminem as a guest at the House of Hip Hop , which is why Cannon was in turn dissed in numerous tracks by other rappers (including several times by Obie Trice and Mesus) who accused him of racism.
Accusation of anti-Semitism
In a podcast with Professor Griff on June 30, 2020, Cannon made several statements that were viewed as anti-Semitic, which he did not want to be understood in that way. Among other things, he had said: "We cannot be anti-Semitic because we are the true Semites." and added "We are the people they want to be. That is our birthright." He had also voiced conspiracy theories about the Rothschild family . After a conversation in which he did not distance himself clearly enough, ViacomCBS stopped working with him and Cannon apologized publicly via Twitter. The Fox Broadcasting Company , for which he is hosting The Masked Singer , accepted this apology. Sean Combs also sided with Cannon and offered to continue the show Wild 'N Out on his TV network Revolt TV. The Jewish rapper Kosha Dillz had previously explained why the statements were so problematic. Cannon accused ViacomCBS of exploitation after his release and demanded an apology for it and for other incidents. The company was on the "wrong side of history" and had previously prevented statements on political issues, which ViacomCBS confirmed and thus declared that they did not want to stir up any charged situation. Canon also demanded that his MTV show Wild 'N Out be handed over to him and also accused NBC of exploitation.
