Obie Trice III (born November 14, 1977 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American rapper .

life and career

Obidah Trice was raised by his single mother, Eleanor Trice. He started rapping when he was eleven when he was given a karaoke machine. He had several underground hits such as Respect , My Club , Dope Jobs Homeless and The Well Known Asshole before he signed with Shady Records in 2000 .

As a friend of Bizarre , a member of the rap group D12 , he made personal acquaintance with Eminem . This liked Obie's style and so he left him the opening of his song Without Me on the album The Eminem Show ("Obie Trice: Real name, no gimmicks") and the first verse of his song "Drips". The line "Real name, no gimmicks" became his slogan (the song Oh! Feat. Busta Rhymes also begins with this sentence). Obie took it over from his friend and Detroit rapper Proof : Before Obie Trice (known under the name "Obie 1") was already making a name for himself as a battle rapper in Detroit, he took part in the locally known battles in the "Hip- Hop Shop ”hosted by Proof. When he wanted to introduce the young rapper to the crowd on stage and he called his name “Obie 1”, Proof is said to have looked at him for a while and then said: “Tell me your name. Your real name, no gimmicks. ”That was ultimately decisive for Obie and he now continued to use his real, official name as a rap name.

Appearances on the official Shady Records mixtape Invasion by DJ Green Lantern allowed Obie to increase his profile. Shortly before the publication of the first invasion -Mixtapes Obie was in a beef between Eminem and Benzino involved after Benzino him addressed to Eminem and Shady Records, with the line "Obie Trice / You's a buster" in a song, disste . In response, Obie put the song Welcome to Detroit City on the first Invasion mixtape. He also participated in the highly publicized beef between 50 Cent and Ja Rule , but never got an answer from Ja Rule.

His debut album Cheers with his first single Got Some Teeth came out on September 22, 2003. Other singles on this CD are Don't Come Down and The Set Up . In total the album consists of 17 pieces of music by the producers Eminem, Dr. Dre , Timbaland , Mike Elizondo , Emile, Fredwreck and Denaun Porter . The album was awarded gold by the RIAA .

On the night of December 30th to December 31st, 2005, Obie Trice was driving on a highway in his hometown of Detroit when he was twice shot at from another vehicle. A bullet penetrated the back of his head. He could steer the car to the next exit. His girlfriend, who was sitting in the car, stopped a police car. Trice was treated in the hospital and released a few hours after the incident without the projectile being removed as removal would be life-threatening.

In 2005 he began to work on his second album, Second Round's on Me , the release date of which was originally scheduled for December 2005. The production was delayed again and again and so the album was only released in mid-2006. The album was re-released by Shady Records and has some guest appearances from rappers on the Detroit rap scene. Obie Trice left Shady Records on June 30, 2008.

On April 3, 2012, his third studio album Bottoms Up was finally released on his own independent label Black Market Entertainment . The album only reached number 130 in the US charts and could no longer build on the commercial success of the first two records. Obie Trice's fourth solo album, The Hangover , was released on August 7, 2015.
