Diss (colloquial)
Dissen is a verb used in youth language (from English to diss (from to disrespect , means something like (someone) "bad", "weird", "disrespect" or "insult")). The word dissen has been listed in the Duden dictionary since 2000 .
Originally a jargon expression from the United States , the word came to Europe and the German-speaking area - via the hip-hop scene , in which dissolving developed into its own style, battle rap . In the German-speaking world, dissolving became very popular in the early 2000s.
Some rappers express their (supposedly) bad relationship, especially with other rappers, through so-called diss tracks . Even commercially successful rappers such as Bushido , Sido or Fler fought long-term feuds with one another, which were fueled by explicit insults and threats. Observers see the changing alliances and hostilities as a marketing tool.
