Shady XV is a sampler from Eminem's label Shady Records and was also released via Interscope Records . It was released on November 24, 2014 as a double album and consists of two CDs, with the first CD containing previously unreleased songs by artists who were under contract with Shady Records at the time of publication. Besides Eminem, these are Bad Meets Evil , D12 , Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf . The second CD is a best-of of all the songs that have been released on the label since it was founded in 1999.

background

On August 25, 2014, the release date of Shady XV and details of the album were announced on Eminem's website . It is a double album that will contain the label's biggest hits, such as Lose Yourself by Eminem and In da Club by 50 Cent , as well as new material. The name Shady XV stands for Shady 15 (see Roman numerals ) and thus both for the 15th anniversary of the label, founded in 1999, as well as for the 15th release on Shady Records (Eminem's solo albums not counted).

content

The first CD contains 13 previously unreleased songs by artists who were signed to Shady Records at the time of publication. Label boss Eminem is featured on eight songs ( ShadyXV , Psychopath Killer , Die Alone , Guts Over Fear , Fine Line , Twisted , Right for Me , Detroit vs. Everybody ) and can be heard on Vegas as part of the duo Bad Meets Evil . The rap group Slaughterhouse has two appearances on the album with Psychopath Killer and Y'all Ready Know . The rapper Yelawolf is represented on the tracks Psychopath Killer , Down , Twisted and Till It's Gone and Royce da 5'9 ″ , part of the rap formations Bad Meets Evil and Slaughterhouse, has another contribution on Detroit vs. Everybody .

Shady XV received mostly average to positive ratings from critics. The site Metacritic calculated from nine reviews of English-language media an average of 61%.

Pascal Bremmer from plattentests.de gave the album four out of a possible ten points. With the new songs, mostly "embarrassing poppy autotune refrains would ruin the punchlines that were kicked before, which are actually quite fun". Only Detroit vs. Everybody can completely convince. Only "the second disc with the best-of titles is still catching you."

On cdstarts.de , Shady XV received seven out of a possible ten points. The reviewer Matthias Reichel thinks that it contains “the usual ingenious and insane raps” from Eminem and his label colleagues, of which “the highly atmospheric psychopath Killer ” stands out. The second CD also contains “immortal classics” by Eminem, 50 Cent and D12.
