Space Bound (English around for. " On the way towards space ") is a song of the American rapper Eminem , in the refrain of the singer Steve McEwan is heard. The song is the fourth single from his seventh studio album Recovery and was released on June 24, 2011 for download only .

content

Like the second single from the album Love the Way You Lie , Space Bound also takes up the topic of distrust and violence in relationships, with Eminem only rapping from the man's point of view. The first verse is about being torn with the loved one. The man says that he used to be treated like dirt and advises his love not to play the wrong game with him, as she has now won his trust. If she did betray him, he would show her what it means to be hurt. He also says that he can no longer feel emotions for women and that he is emotionally cold. In the refrain sung by Steve McEwan, the man depicts a spaceship flying into space, whose destination is the moon, which represents the woman's heart. In the shorter second verse, Eminem raps about the paradox of love and about falling in love with a person and doing anything for them even though they are not interested. As soon as you get this person, the feelings change and you can no longer understand why you tried so hard. The third verse is about the fact that after a year and a half the love of the woman for the man has expired and she wants to part with him. The man says that he still loves her more than anything, that he has never treated her badly and that he would do anything to ensure that she does not leave him. But the woman doesn't even listen to him, which is why he attacks her physically and begins to choke her. However, he doesn't manage to kill her, instead he takes a pistol and shoots himself. Before he does, he says that he would have done anything for her love and that she should at least think of him if she is a star in the sky sees.

production

The American producer Jim Jonsin created the instrumental for the song. Space Bound was recorded at Effigy Studios in Ferndale, Michigan and the Parkland Playhouse in Parkland, Florida . The song contains a sample of the song Drive by the rock band REM

Music video

The video for Space Bound was directed by the American Joseph Kahn , who also directed the music videos for Eminem's songs Without Me , We Made You and Love the Way You Lie . The video was shot in February 2011 and released on June 24, 2011 via iTunes . The scene in which Eminem shot himself in the head was particularly controversial.

The video starts with Eminem walking down a road near a forest at night while rapping his text. Shortly afterwards, his girlfriend, played by the porn actress Sasha Gray , pulls up in a car to take him away. Eminem gets into her car and they both drive to a motel . On the way there, Eminem is seen in two ways: calmly in the passenger seat and angry and cursing in the back seat. This dual role is continued in the restaurant by sitting down at the table with his girlfriend on the one hand and going alone towards the bar and rapping on the other. The screen is split in the middle. Eminem and Gray sit across from each other while she texts a stranger. Then Gray goes to the bathroom and Eminem takes her cell phone to see what she wrote to whom. Just before she comes back, he hastily puts the phone back in her pocket. Now the couple goes to their room and Eminem hears a knock on the door, which he pursues, but sees no one. He suddenly has a flashback of a gun in Grey's car and the unknown caller on her cell phone. He runs back into the room and physically attacks his girlfriend, who then disappears. Eminem takes her pistol and shoots himself under the chin with a headshot, the bullet emerging from the top of his skull. The chorus kicks in and the video plays back quickly to where Eminem gets into Gray's car and they both drive down the street.
