Role Model (English for. " Role model ") is a song of the American rapper Eminem . The song is included on Eminem's second studio album The Slim Shady LP and was released as the third single on May 26, 1999. The track is also on the deluxe version of Eminem's best-of album Curtain Call: The Hits .

In the intro, Eminem says that he will drown himself now and advises the listener to do the same if he wants to be like the rapper he sees as a "role model". The first verse is very battle rap heavy and contains swipes against Canibus , Vanilla Ice and Hillary Clinton . Eminem describes with many exaggerations , metaphors and comparisons how he takes down his imaginary opponents. He also ironically asks the listener to do exactly what he says: "Smoke weed , take pills , quit school, kill people and drink up". Furthermore, he alludes to the prejudices against his white skin color and says that he cannot exist in the rap genre at all. In the first chorus, Eminem asks if the listener doesn't want to become just like him by beating women, eating mushrooms and dying of an overdose . The second verse is thematically in the same style as the first and begins with an allusion to the Nicole Brown Simpson murder case . The comic figure Foghorn Leghorn and the fictional character Norman Bates from the novel Psycho are also mentioned . Then Eminem distributes against his mother and the rapper Cage . In the second chorus, Eminem says that he slept with ten women who had HIV and that he had genital warts . He asks the listener again if he wants to be like him.

The beat of the song was created by Eminem's discoverer and producer Dr. Dre produced in collaboration with Mel-Man . No samples from other songs were used.

It begins with a short silent film in which Eminem - his feet and hands tied - is hung upside down in a vessel from which he wants to free himself like the magician Harry Houdini . Then the music starts and there are scenes that show Eminem at a concert. In addition, the rapper takes on the role of a priest who takes a girl's confession and later sits on a bed with a young believer or with a prostitute . There is also an animated scene in which Eminem pulls a leg out of the comic character Foghorn Leghorn . At the end of the video, the trick announced in the silent film fails and Eminem drowns in a water vessel.

Role Model was only released as a single for promotional purposes and was therefore not for sale in the open market. Besides the song, the tracks Cum on Everybody and '97 Bonnie & Clyde , which are also on The Slim Shady LP, are included on the release.
