The song was released on November 7, 2006 and is the first single from the compilation album Eminem Presents: The Re-Up by Eminem's label Shady Records .

Thematically, the piece can be assigned to gangsta rap . It's about the supremacy of the label Shady Records in the entire rap genre, which many do not want to admit and therefore pretend that they do not know about it. 50 Cent raps about his wealth, which he is prepared to defend with armed force if necessary. For fun, he likes to turn people on at parties because he can easily pay for an impending court case with his money. Eminem talks about his bond with 50 Cent and that they don't just work together on a business level, they are true friends. If there was beef with other rappers, they would always stand on one side and support each other. But today they are only there to party and not to seek arguments. Cashis and Lloyd Banks glorify gun violence in their stanza and boast of their gangster image. In the outro , rapper Tony Yayo reaffirms the exceptional position of the labels Shady Records from Eminem, Aftermath Entertainment from Dr. Dre and G-Unit Records by 50 cents.

The music video was shot by The Saline Project.
All four rappers take on the role of highly dangerous criminals in the video who wear prison clothing and are handcuffed and chained. They are brought from their prisons to a heavily guarded arena in four separate transport vehicles (airplane, helicopter, train, truck). The video contains elements that are based on the film The Silence of the Lambs . Eminem wears a muzzle similar to that of Hannibal Lecter .
In addition to the rappers involved in the song, the artists The Alchemist , Young Buck , D12 , Bobby Creekwater, Obie Trice , Mobb Deep , Trick Trick , Tony Yayo , Dr. Dre and Stat Quo from the environment of the Shady Records label can be seen in the video. Obie Trice wears a prototype of Beats by Dr. Dre , which wasn't released until two years later.

You Don't Know reached number twelve on the charts in the United States and stayed in the top 100 for six weeks. In the United Kingdom the song was ranked 32nd in Norway it was ranked seventh. The single did not reach the German charts.
