Survival (English for. " Survival ") is a song of the American rapper Eminem in which the refrain of the singer Liz Rodrigues is sung. The song is the second single from his eighth studio album The Marshall Mathers LP 2 and was released on October 8, 2013 for download only .

The chorus sung by Liz Rodrigues is about the fact that only the most adapted survive and the winner gets everything. In the first verse, Eminem says that at the beginning of his career he never expected to be such a superstar today. Rap was all about being able to support his family and standing for something. He is now back and wants to show all the critics again. The second verse is about Eminem still full of energy and not thinking about quitting. He made it into the top 5 best rappers of all time. In the third verse, Eminem raps that his whole life has been focused on rap because he couldn't do anything else because he dropped out of 9th grade. He also encourages doubters to calmly criticize him because he can best turn criticism into success.

Like many of Eminem's songs, Survival's lyrics contain a lot of comparisons and metaphors .

The beat of the song was created by DJ Khalil produced and through the use of electric guitars quite rocky held. No samples from songs by other artists were used in the production.

Music video

The video for Survival , which premiered on October 8, 2013, was directed by Syndrome .

At the beginning of the music video, Eminem slips into the role of a sprayer who is spraying the Call of Duty: Ghosts skull logo on a house wall. He then raps in an abandoned building, with scenes from the game and from Eminem's concerts being projected onto a wall in the background. Furthermore, you can see other sprayers who also spray the logo on the building and then gather with Eminem on the roof of the building, from where they watch a huge projection of the logo on a skyscraper opposite. At the end of the video, Eminem stands in front of his childhood house, which also served as the album cover for both parts of the Marshall Mathers LP .

Survival entered the German charts at number 38 in the 43rd calendar week of 2013 and climbed to 33 and 32 positions in the following weeks, before reaching the best place at position 20. In total, the song stayed in the top 100 for 17 weeks.
