Renegade ( English for " renegade ") is a song by the American rapper Jay-Z , which he recorded together with the rapper Eminem . The song was released on his studio album The Blueprint on September 11, 2001 and is the only collaboration on the album.

content

On Renegade, Jay-Z and Eminem settle accounts with their critics. They say that Jay Z has lost touch with his previous life and is only concerned with wealth. At Eminem, they criticize his text content and think that he is a bad role model for children.

In the first verse, Jay Z raps about other people's views that he would only rap about jewels , and hits back claiming that they don't really listen to his music. In the following lines, Jay Z raps about the neighborhood from the perspective of a reporter , whereas in contrast to a reporter he has lived in such a neighborhood. He also denounces the music critics. They wouldn't be able to rate his music if they hadn't gone through the same thing as him. In the third verse, Jay Z continues his criticism. For safety reasons, he always carried a weapon that he hid under his coat. His father had left the family, the mother was often not at home, which forced him to be the “man in the house” at a young age and to support everyone. Jay Z would like to tell Biggie that he now has multi-platinum records. In the song, Young G's of Puff Daddy Jay Z rapped on Biggie that he would sell plates with mehrfachausgezeichnetem platinum before he dies.

In the chorus , both rappers say they were never afraid to speak their minds and other things at all times. They therefore refer to themselves as "apostates".

Eminem himself can be heard in the second and fourth verses. He is perceived by parents as a threat and also compares himself to Elvis Presley , who at the time caused annoyance with his hips with his parents. He criticizes people who claim that Eminem is homophobic and misogynous . In America, Eminem is discussed, hated and seen as a drug addict. He puts forward the thesis that the parents who condemned his music are in a bad relationship. In the fourth stanza, Eminem says he is a modern Shakespeare who, like Jesus , influenced millions of people. Eminem destroys this image by mocking both Christians and Mormons . He continues his anti-Christian tirade. He goes to war against the Mormons and goes to bathe in holy water with the Catholics . Eminem wouldn't be surprised if Catholics tried to drown him in an alleged baptism. People would n't like the new Ice Cube . Eminem wonders what he did to make Ice Cube dislike him, responding to the rumor that Ice Cube never really liked him.

production

The instrumental for the song was produced by Eminem himself. The song should originally be a collaboration between Eminem and the rapper Royce da 5'9 ″ as part of the group Bad Meets Evil and appear on the album Rock City . Royce da 5'9 ″ decided on the title track Rock City , so Eminem handed the song over to Jay Z.
