Cinderella Man ( Cinderella stands for Cinderella in English ) is a song by the American rapper Eminem . The song is on his seventh studio album, Recovery , which was released in 2010.

content

Cinderella Man is a track where Eminem mostly uses puns , comparisons and metaphors to describe his comeback after the career break.

In the intro of the piece, the rapper says that he is actually no longer here and alludes to his methadone overdose from 2007, in which he narrowly escaped death. Now he wants to use his second chance. In the first verse, Eminem raps that he is feeling better than ever and is able to do anything. To reinforce this, he slips into the role of the lyric self as Cinderella Man, who is omnipotent. He texts that he can catch lightning in bottles and set water on fire. He also has power over time by breaking hourglasses and freezing the sand to stop time. He was down and has now come back to send his enemies to the ground. Eminem doesn't leave his previous album Relapse , from 2009, which is now in the trash. He compares himself to a sniper who specializes in a target until it is destroyed. He is referring to a fictional opponent whom he discredits in various ways, including by comparing his lines with arsenic and flames. Eminem says that the rap scene missed him and indirectly addresses other rappers as to whether they would have been missed if they had taken a break. In the chorus, Eminem refers to the story of Cinderella as a person who loses his Nike shoe on a ball . Music is his time machine and so he is Cinderella Man himself. A man's voice can be heard in the background of the chorus, which also appears at various points in the verse and calls out "Cinderella Man". At the beginning of the second verse, the rapper refers to the beginning of the song. He is now a god who triggers lightning, turns the world upside down and lets it rain upwards. One should forget the past because he is still the best today, with which Eminem alludes to the fact that many critics find his old works better than the new albums. He did not come back from Hell to do the same rap as before, but is constantly developing. The rapper says he won't make any more mistakes and won't get addicted to drugs again. At the end he also mentions his former best friend Proof , whose spirit lives on in him.

production

The beat of the song was produced by Script Shepherd. He did not use any samples from other songs. Cinderella Man was recorded at Effigy Studios. It is one of the few pieces that Eminem wrote entirely himself.
