Fall ( English for "to fall ") is a song by the American rapper Eminem , which was released on August 31, 2018 on his tenth studio album Kamikaze . The chorus of the song is sung by singer Justin Vernon .

content

In the song, Eminem raps in the style of his alter ego Slim Shady and disses various other artists, including Joe Budden , Charlamagne Tha God, DJ Akademiks, Tyler, the Creator and Lord Jamar. He also criticizes Mumble rappers because they would only imitate other rappers. The Grammys are also denounced. So these artists would only help relatively unknown artists, while the best would be ignored. At the end of the song he mentions that he inspired rappers like Hopsin , Logic , Big Sean , K-Dot and Royce da 5'9 ″ and brought 50 cents to the world . The word "fagot" ( English for " fagot "), with which he attacks Tyler, the Creator, was sharply criticized, for which Eminem later apologized in an interview.

production

The song was produced by the American music producer Mike Will Made It . The additional production was taken over by Eminem itself.

Music video

The music video for the song was released on September 4, 2018. It was shot by James Larese. In the video, Eminem is followed by a black creature and tries to escape from it. In the end, he gives up and leaves the creature in his body. The "possessed" Eminem jumps out of a building and steps on the Revival CD afterwards . The word "fagot" has been censored in the video.

criticism

Fall was criticized primarily for the use of the word "fagot". Imagine Dragons singer Dan Reynolds and many others publicly denounced this. Mikelle Street, who writes for Billboard , said that Eminem should be held responsible for "using homophobic terms" on the song. Singer Justin Vernon , who was also featured on the song, distanced himself from the "message of the track," saying that he was not in the studio during this recording. He also asked for a text change from Eminem, which Eminem refused. Eminem later apologized in an interview. It is now clear to him that he has hurt many people with the use of the word.
