Curtain Call: The Hits (. Engl about for " bow: The Hits "), a best-of is album of American rapper Eminem . It was released on December 2, 2005 on his own label Shady Records, as well as Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records .

content

The songs included on the album are mainly previously released singles . These come from Eminem's four solo albums The Slim Shady LP (two songs), The Marshall Mathers LP (three songs), The Eminem Show (three songs) and Encore (three songs), which were released up to 2005, as well as the soundtrack album for the 2002 movie 8 Mile (one song). However, there are also three new songs on the album. The song Fack addresses sexual intercourse in a very ironic and exaggerated way. Shake That is a club banger specializing in women's butts. Only When I'm Gone is a serious song in which Eminem talks about the fact that his family, especially his daughter Hailie, is falling short because of his career and that he wants to take care of them more in the future. The song is also intended to symbolize the end of a section of his career.

In addition to the normal version, there is also a deluxe edition with seven additional tracks. The bonus CD ( Stan's Mixtape ) contains songs that Eminem counts as one of his favorite songs.

production

Most of the songs selected for the best of compilation were written by Eminem himself or Dr. Dre produces. Mel-Man and the Bass Brothers assisted in some productions . In addition, The 45 King, DJ Head and Mike Elizondo , as well as the trio Chucky Thompson, P. Diddy and Mario Winans each contributed to a beat. Eminem acted as executive producer and produced the beats for the three new songs Fack , Shake That and When I'm Gone .

Guest Posts

Some of the selected songs contain features from other artists. So when is Stan the chorus of the British singer Dido sung (from their hit Thank You the chorus in the original dates), and Eminem's producer Dr. Dre has a guest part on the track Guilty Conscience . On the additional live version of Stan , Elton John sings the part of Dido, and Nate Dogg can be heard in the new song Shake That . The Deluxe Edition also features a guest contribution by Eminem's rap crew D12 ( Shit on You ). The bonus CD also includes the songs Dead Wrong from the album Born Again by Notorious BIG and Renegade from the album The Blueprint by Jay-Z , on which the aforementioned rappers have guest contributions.

The reviews of the album were average to positive.

  • In laut.de received Curtain Call: The Hits three out of a possible five points. It is a successful compilation of Eminem's best songs:

“In addition to popular hits, 'Curtain Call' contains three new pieces, a few rare tracks and personal favorite numbers of the white rap star, whom the black community more respects than loves. [...] In between the rap star sprinkles new tracks, like the hauntingly pathetic single 'When I'm Gone'. [...] 'Fack' presents the average Eminem flow, while 'Shake That' is the highlight of the newbies. The grainy, swinging club tune with G-Funk tenor Nate Dogg is one of the most obscene groovy numbers the Detroit-based artist has delivered recently. "

  • The website cnet.de gave the CD eight out of ten possible points:

'Curtain Call' [is] an opulent and tastefully compiled greatest hits album. You know them, the hits. 'My Name Is', […] 'Stan', 'Lose Yourself', 'Like Toy Soldiers' or 'The Real Slim Shady'. The bitter clips for the songs ran on the music channel in rotation, irritated and polarized. That one can marvel at this type of music, the raps, but also the beats, is perhaps all too often forgotten. [...] The three new pieces [are] all relatively firmly anchored in the typical Eminem cosmos. I especially like 'When I'm Gone'. "
