The Blueprint ( English for The blueprint is) the sixth studio album of American rapper Jay-Z . It was released on September 11, 2001 on the labels Roc-A-Fella and Def Jam .

Production and samples

Jay-Z himself and his business partners Damon Dash and Kareem Burke served as executive producers in the production of the album . Six different producers were involved in the production of the Beats. Kanye West produced most of the songs with Takeover , Izzo (HOVA) , Heart of the City (Ain't No Love) , Never Change and Girls, Girls, Girls (Part 2) . Just Blaze contributed four beats ( Girls, Girls, Girls , U Don't Know , Song Cry , Breathe Easy (Lyrical Exercise) ). Three other instrumentals are from Bink ( The Ruler's Back , All I Need , Blueprint (Momma Loves Me) ). Eminem also produced the song Renegade , while the beat for Jigga That Nigga is from the Trackmasters and Timbaland created the instrumental for Hola 'Hovito .

Almost every song on the album (13 of 15) contains samples of songs by other artists. The Ruler's Back samples the track If by Jackie Moore and contains elements from Slick Rick's The Ruler's Back . At Takeover , the tracks Five to One by The Doors and Sound of da Police by KRS-One are sampled. The song also contains elements from David Bowie's piece Fame . The song I Want You Back by The Jackson Five is sampled in the song Izzo (HOVA) , while Girls, Girls, Girls Samples of the tracks There's Nothing in This World That Can Stop Me from Loving You by Tom Brock and High Power Rap by the Crash Crew includes. U Don't Know also samples the song I'm Not to Blame by Bobby Byrd , Heart of the City (Ain't No Love), the track Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City by Bobby Bland and Never Change the song Common Man by David Ruffin . The beat of Song Cry includes a sample of the track Sounds Like a Love Song by Bobby Glenn, while All I Need samples the track I Can't Break Away by Natalie Cole . The song Renegade is a remake of the song Renegades by Bad Meets Evil and Blueprint (Momma Loves Me) samples the track Free at Last by Al Green . The hidden tracks Breathe Easy (Lyrical Exercise) and Girls, Girls, Girls (Part 2) also contain samples of the songs Got to Find My Own Place by Stanley Clarke and Trying Girls Out by The Persuaders.

The Blueprint reached number 55 in the German album charts and stayed in the top 100 for three weeks. In the USA, the album entered the top position and was able to stay in the charts for 35 weeks, including three weeks at number 1.

The songs Izzo (HOVA) , Girls, Girls, Girls , Jigga That Nigga and Song Cry were released as singles.

Sales figures and awards

For more than two million copies sold, The Blueprint was awarded double platinum in the USA . As of February 2012, more than 2.7 million albums had been sold in the United States. The Blueprint also received a gold record in the UK for more than 100,000 copies sold. Worldwide sales are around 3.5 million units.

The music magazine Rolling Stone ranked the album at number 252 on its list of the 500 best albums of all time in 2012 . At laut.de , The Blueprint originally received only two out of five stars, but was retrospectively rated with full points in 2015 in the “Milestones” column.

At the Grammy Awards in 2002 was The Blueprint in the category Best Rap Album nominated, but lost Stankonia of OutKast .
