Cigar cutters are used to cut un- notched cigars on one end before smoking . Most cigars are usually closed at the end of the mouth (cigar head).

Types

There are different types of cigar cutters:

  • Cutter - so-called double-blade cutters and normal cutters can be found in stores. Cutters are the most common method of cutting cigars (see picture),
  • Cigar scissors - they are similar to the normal scissors we know .
  • Round cutter, round cutter or cigar drill - round cutting tool with which a small hole is drilled in the end of the cigar. Particularly suitable for long and thick cigars.
  • Notch cutter or V-cutter - cigar cutter with which a V-notch is cut into the end of the cigar. With simple or inverse blade. Most suitable for short fillers.

Cigar knives are not cigar cutters, but special professional knives from the cigar manufacturers.

Working methods

When cutting a cigar, it is important to have a clean cut, as it has a significant effect on the cigar's burning behavior.

The cutter or pocket guillotine is one of the most frequently used devices . These are available with a single or double cutting edge. The cigar head is inserted through the opening in the middle of the cutter and separated by pressing it together. The cigar cutter creates a large opening at the head end so that the smoke can flow unhindered.

The advantage of cigar scissors is that they allow a circular cut , regardless of the diameter of the cigar . However, it is difficult to use and is therefore rarely used.

The round cutter , also known as a round cutter or cigar drill, offers an alternative technique . The cigar head is drilled with a round knife, creating a hole about 1.5 millimeters deep. The drilling technique protects the cover sheet of the cigar, and when the drill is turned back, the loose tobacco is cut out.

With the notch cutter, or V-cutter, the cigar is pressed into the round opening and notched by the V-shaped blade. Notch cutters are available in different sizes, from table models to models for your pocket. Since the cover sheet can easily be damaged by blunt V-blades or too much pressure, the V-cutter has lost a lot of its importance.
