composition

"Talk That Talk" is a medium-tempo hip hop and R&B song. The song is a sample of the song "I Got a Story to Tell" by The Notorious BIG , from the album Life After Death (1997). The song begins with Jay-Z's rap verse with the introduction:

"I talk big money, I talk big homes
I sell out arenas, I call that getting dome
Million dollar voice, came through phone
We heading to the top If you come, come on ".

According to Time's Claire Suddath , Jay-Z "delivers a constricted verse of ambiguity and funny jokes, including the very bizarre sexual references, '[I] had it by her bladder, she's like' Oh I gotta pee! '".

Critical reception

"Talk That Talk" received good reviews overall. In a review for the album, Adrian Thrills of the Daily Mail wrote that "Talk That Talk" was a "slow and sultry" track. Gavin Martin of the Daily Mirror wrote that the title not only steals Beyoncé's Bootylicious crown, but also gave her husband Jay-Z some torn eardrums. MTV's Jocelyn Vena wrote that the song "is big and tough with enough shine" .

Commercial win

In the United States, the song sold over 73,000 downloads in its first week and was ranked 31st on the Billboard Hot 100 . In Canada and Australia, "Talk That Talk" reached positions 30 and 42.
