Life After Death ( English for: life after death ) is the second studio album by the American rapper The Notorious BIG. It was released on March 25, 1997, shortly after the artist's death, on the Bad Boy Records label . The double album was particularly successful in the USA and received a diamond record for more than 5.5 million copies sold.

As with Ready to Die , Sean Combs was executive producer of the album. The main production was done by Hitmen Productions, Buckwild, Clark Kent, Easy Mo Bee , Havoc , Daron Jones, Kay Gee, DJ Premier and RZA . Almost every song on the album uses samples of various songs from different musical genres.
Cover design
The album cover is kept in dark tones. It shows The Notorious BIG , wearing a top hat and overcoat, standing to the left of a black hearse with the inscription Life after death . In the upper part of the picture is the writing The Notorious BIG

The album entered the German charts at number 91 in the 20th calendar week of 1997, fell out of the top 100 the next week, but rose to number 63 in the following weeks. In total, the album stayed in the German charts for 21 weeks. In the USA, Life After Death rose to the top of the charts, where it was able to stay for 87 weeks, and was awarded an eleven platinum record for more than 5.5 million units sold , as double albums are rated twice there.
Life After Death is still one of the most successful rap albums in history. It was ranked 476 on its list of the 500 best albums of all time by Rolling Stone in 2012 .
At the Grammy Awards in 1998 was Life After Death in the category Best Rap Album nominated, but lost No Way Out of Puff Daddy .
Singles
Three songs from the album were released as singles. The first release Hypnotize rose to the top of the US charts and stayed in the top 100 for 20 weeks. The second single Mo Money Mo Problems also reached number 1 in the USA and stayed in the charts there for 28 weeks. In addition, the track Sky's the Limit was released.
