Schoolly D
Schoolly D (* 1962 ; actually Jesse B. Weaver ) is an American hip-hop - MC from Philadelphia , which has been active since the mid-1980s and one of the co-inventor of the so-called gangsta rap applies.
Schoolly D started rapping in 1979. The main influences at the beginning were Grandmaster Flash and the Funky Four . He worked with DJ Code Money on his first records in the 1980s . Her pieces, heard for example on the album Schoolly-D , were characterized by electronic, economical hardcore beats that were alienated by extreme electronic reverb and echo spaces. With the rapidly emerging sampling, the sound adapted to the hip-hop that was popular around 1988. Later it came to the collaboration with KRS One , whereby Schoolly D became more political and the Black Consciousness movement closer. As a special feature - against all trends - distorted rock guitars were used again on Welcome to America in 1994 . Several of his pieces can be found on the soundtracks of Abel Ferrara's films , for example Bad Lieutenant .
