Notorious ( Music from and Inspired by the Original Motion Picture Notorious ) is the soundtrack album for the film Notorious BIG. It was released on January 9, 2009 on the Bad Boy Entertainment label. Most of the songs on the album come from the rapper The Notorious BIG , whose biography the plot of the film revolves around.

The songs on the album are mostly previously released singles and tracks from already released albums by rapper The Notorious BIG These are Ready to Die (two songs), Life After Death (five songs), Born Again (one song) and Greatest Hits (a song). It also includes the rapper's very first single, Party and Bullshit , released in 1993. There are also three previously unreleased demo versions ( Microphone Murderer , Guaranteed Raw , Love No Ho ) and a remix for the song One More Chance / The Legacy on the soundtrack. The Notorious BIG is not involved in any of the other three tracks.

Many different producers were involved in the production of the album. Sean Combs , Voletta Wallace (mother of The Notorious BIG ), Mark Pitts and The Notorious BIG are named as executive producers . Sean Combs is also involved in most of the instrumentals with six productions. The beats of the three demo versions come from The Hitman DJ 50 Gran and two instrumentals each were produced by Easy Mo Bee and Rashad Smith. In addition, Poke , DJ Premier and Kanye West are responsible for one beat each . The title The Notorious Theme was composed by Danny Elfman . Some of the producers on the album are part of The Hitmen's production team.

Many songs contain samples of songs by other artists.

Cover design

The album cover is kept in dark blue tones. It shows Jamal Woolard , the actor who plays in The Notorious BIG , from the right. He is wearing sunglasses and a hat that he grabs with his left hand. In the lower part of the picture there is the lettering Notorious in gold and music from and inspired by the original motion picture in white.

Guest Posts

The Notorious BIG itself cannot be heard on three of the 17 songs. Thus Brooklyn Go Hard collaboration of rapper Jay-Z and singer Santigold , while Letter to BIG a collaboration of rapper Jadakiss with singer Faith Evans represents. The composition The Notorious Theme is a purely instrumental piece. On seven of the other 14 songs, other artists can be heard besides The Notorious BIG. So when is Juicy the girl group Total and represented in Hypnotize sings Pamela Long, a member of this group, the chorus. Other guest singers are Faith Evans and Mary J. Blige in the song One More Chance / Stay with Me (Remix) . The former also sings the chorus of One More Chance / The Legacy (Remix) , which also includes Christopher Wallace Junior, son of The Notorious BIG. The track Notorious Thugs is a collaboration with the rap group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony . The Notorious BIG's discoverer Puff Daddy can also be heard in the track Notorious BIG alongside rapper Lil 'Kim and has ... together with the singer in The World Is Filled Carl Thomas and the rapper Too Short made another guest contribution.

Dani Fromm from laut.de rated the soundtrack with four out of a possible five points. The songs from The Notorious BIG are called “alltime classics” and “regardless of the 15 years they have under their belts, they have not started any cobwebs.” In addition, the album offers “a lot of added value” in the form of Jay's songs -Z , Santigold , Jadakiss and Faith Evans as well as some demo versions.
