Unfaithful is a song by the Barbadian singer Rihanna from her second album " A Girl Like Me ", which was released in 2006 . The song was written by Ne-Yo , Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel S. Eriksen and released on July 17, 2006 as the second single from the album. It is an R & B - ballad with influences of Pop . The piece was very successful commercially. In some countries (e.g. Switzerland) it took the top position. In Germany it landed in second place.

After Rihanna's collaboration with Sean Paul , Rihanna now worked with her musician colleague, the singer-songwriter Ne-Yo . Ne-Yo wrote the song with the Norwegian music producer Team Stargate , for Rihanna's second album A Girl Like Me . Stargate also produced the song. With Unfaithful , Rihanna recorded a ballad for the first time, in contrast to her previous songs. In an interview, Rihanna said: “It's a ballad , for me it's a new ground, my previous songs were faster titles, now I have to prove that I can handle ballads well. I'm so excited."

In the United States , Unfaithful reached number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 a few weeks after its release in July 2006 . It was Rihanna's third top ten hit in the US. The success was facilitated by a music video that was played several times a day on American music channels such as MTV .

Unfaithful ranked 8th on a list published by Billboard Magazine, "The Best Songs of Summer 2006" .

Even before its release as a single, Unfaithful made its debut in the UK charts and in Australia . In the UK , download sales were so high that Unfaithful debuted straight at number 16 on the UK charts. The following week, July 24, 2006, Unfaithful jumped from 16 straight to second, only being kept off the top by Shakira's and Wyclef Jeans Hips Don't Lie , making it Rihanna's third number 2 hit in the UK, after Pon de Replay (2005) and SOS (2006). Download sales in Australia were so high that Unfaithful debuted straight away at # 2. In the Eurochart 100, where the single and download sales from European countries are evaluated, Unfaithful reached number 1 for three weeks. To date, Unfaithful has sold over 4.5 million units worldwide, 2,727,000 through download sales in the United States alone.

After a successful duet with British singer Matt Cardle on the UK talent show The X Factor in December 2010, Unfaithful returned to number 31 in the UK charts more than four years after its release. This time the song stayed in the UK charts for only a few weeks and left the charts at number 50 in early January 2011.

In German-speaking countries was Unfaithful also a success, reaching in Germany and in Austria 2nd place in which Switzerland was Unfaithful even Rihanna's first number-one hit and was a total of 11 weeks at No. 1, the Swiss chart at the end of the year placed himself Unfaithful at number 6 in the Swiss annual charts. The song reached number 14 in the German annual charts. In the German decade charts from 2000 to 2009, Unfaithful reached number 43. In 2010, the music show presented the ultimate chart show in the program “The most successful hits of the new millennium”.

Furthermore, Unfaithful became a number one hit in Portugal .
