Composition and production

The song was recorded in October 2005 and released on February 7, 2006. JR Rotem, who was already involved in the text, was responsible as the producer. He used the main theme from Soft Cells Tainted Love from 1981 . The text "You got me tossin 'and turnin' and I can't sleep at night" was also taken from the template.

“I heard 'Tainted Love' and wanted to take the bass line and update it with a new swing. When I gave the track to Evan, the 80s feeling was already in the track. "

The title references songs from the 1980s in several places. The song repeatedly takes up quotes from other titles from this decade. Including a-has Take On Me , Cutting Crews (I Just) Died in Your Arms , Tears for Fears ' Head over Heels, Michael Jackson's The Way You Make Me Feel and Modern Englishs I Melt with You as well as Kim Wilde's You Keep Me Hanging On .

Songs from the 1970s are also taken up. The title also quotes Elton John's Tiny Dancer . The name of the song is a reference to ABBA's SOS .

Commercial win

In the United States, the track reached # 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 , Pop 100, Hot Dance Music / Club Play, Hot Dance Airplay, Hot Digital Songs, and the Hot Digital Tracks . The song reached number 2 at the Pop 100 Airplay . SOS broke the 2,000,000 downloads mark in the US.

After 13 weeks, the song was removed from the British singles charts, as there is a remix by SOS on the single for Unfaithful .
