List of number one hits in the US

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of the number one hits in the United States is based on the evaluation of Billboard magazine , namely on the Hot 100 singles chart, which first appeared on August 4, 1958. These are a combination of sales and airplay - charts are calculated and the criteria for the songs contained therein have changed over time and adapted to market changes.. It should be noted that, unlike, for example, in the German or English charts, in the case of sound carriers with multiple titles (double A-sides, EPs), each song is listed individually because they have the same sales figures but different broadcasts.

The lists before the Hot 100 (up to and including July 1958) name the leaders of the various charts that were published on Billboard in the respective years , namely according to sales figures, according to radio and (until 1957) according to jukebox use, and (from November 1955 ) a combination of the three, the Top 100, a precursor to the Hot 100 .

The Top 200 album charts were evaluated for the number one albums . These are pure sales charts.
