Don't Forget About Us is a song by the American singer Mariah Carey . The song was written and produced by her, Jermaine Dupri , Johntá Austin and Bryan-Michael Cox. The song was released on December 12, 2005 in the United States as the fourth single from Carey's tenth album The Emancipation of Mimi (2005). The song became a number one hit in Finland , Belgium and the US . At the 2007 Grammy Awards , the song was nominated in two categories.

criticism

Most music critics noticed parallels between Don't Forget About Us and We Belong Together . Chuck Taylor of Billboard Magazine described the song as “a little continuation of their previous number one hit [...] Forget is a seductive, soulful, tender and warm ballad with a lot of soul , as we all know it from Mrs. Carey, the success the single is already preprogrammed. "Bill Lamb of About.com wrote," It doesn't reach the power of the brilliant We Belong Together . "

Don't Forget About Us was nominated for the 2006 BET Awards in the Viewers' Choice category. At the Grammy Awards 2007 the song was nominated in the categories Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song.

Music video

The music video for Do not Forget About Us rotates Mariah Carey along with Paul Hunter , who previously the video for Carey's number-one hit Honey (1997) turned to her. The scenes in the music video always alternate between two periods of time. The first period shows Carey sad in the present, the second period shows Carey's memories of a former relationship with her ex-lover (played by Dolce & Gabbana model Christian Monzon).

The music video had its world premiere on October 29, 2005 on MTV's Spanking New .

Remix version

There were also many remixed versions of Don't Forget About Us released . The main remix was produced by Jermaine Dupri and is known as the Mr. Dupri mix. This remix version features guest appearances from rappers Juelz Santana , Krayzie Bone and Layzie Bone . The Mr. Dupri mix was also released for download on iTunes .

In January 2007 a new remix version was released under the title Desert Storm remix, it was produced by DJ Clue (he already produced remix versions of We Belong Together and Shake It Off ). On this remix version, Fabolous and Styles P work as rappers. This remix version was released especially for American radio stations. This version appeared on DJ Clue's album The Professional, Pt. 3 . A music video for this version can be found on its official MySpace page; it shows pictures of Mariah Carey, DJ Clue and Fabulous in the studio and having fun during and after the recording.

Charts

Don't Forget About Us was made available to American radio stations on October 11, 2005. Eleven weeks after its release, the single reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and spent two weeks at number one from December 31, 2005 to January 13, 2006, making it her seventeenth number one hit in the United States, Elvis Presley also has 17 number one hits in the US. In 2008, Mariash Carey had her 18th number one hit in the United States with Touch My Body , making it number 2 behind the Beatles for most number one hits in the United States.

The album version and some remixed versions of the song were released on December 13, 2005. The Recording Industry Association of America awarded Do not Forget About Us after a very few weeks with platinum from. Don't Forget About Us reached number 50 in the 2006 annual US charts .

Outside the United States, the song became a number one hit in Finland and Belgium ( Flanders ) and reached the top 20 in the United Kingdom and Australia . In the other countries, the title was only moderately successful.
