Never Too Far is a song by the American singer Mariah Carey . The song was written and produced by her Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. It appeared on their album Glitter . The protagonist of this ballad explains that although physical distance love can sometimes separate lovers. In September 2001 the song was released as the second single on the album.

Never Too Far became the first song in Carey's career to miss the American Billboard Hot 100 . However, the song became a top 40 hit in Australia and the UK , and was outside of the top 40 in Germany , Switzerland , the Netherlands and Sweden .

There were no remixed versions of the song. The charity single Never Too Far / Hero Medley combines the first verse of Never Too Far , with the second verse and the bridge of Carey's number one hit Hero (1993). The charity single later made up for Never Too Far's lack of success and made it into the American Billboard Hot 100.

Because Carey previously suffered a nervous breakdown , no music video could be made for the song . Instead of the music video, a scene was taken straight from the movie Glitter , where Billie Frank (played by Carey) sings the song in Madison Square Garden in New York City during their first sold out concert.
