Charmbracelet (in English: charm bracelet ) is the ninth studio album by the American singer Mariah Carey . It was first released on December 3, 2002 on this record label on Island Records . It was also the first album after her film Glitter and the accompanying soundtrack album Glitter . The glitter project had not been a success, generating comparatively modest sales and receiving below average reviews. Charm bracelet sold better and went platinum in the US, but did not produce any hit singles that could reach the top 80 on the Billboard Hot 100 . The album sold over five million times.
Origin and Success
On Charmbracelet Carey collaborated again with various hip-hop and R&B artists. These included Cam'ron , Jay-Z , Freeway - You Got Me also appeared on his 2003 album Philadelphia Freeway -, Westside Connection, and Kelly Price and Joe . I Know What You Want was a collaboration with Busta Rhymes , while Bringin 'On the Heartbreak is a Def Leppard cover that was co-produced with Randy Jackson . Before the album was released in December 2002 in time for Christmas, the first single was released in October 2002, Through the Rain , reached number 81 on the Billboard charts. However, the piece was able to reach the top ten in Canada and Great Britain . The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 , with approximately 240,000 units sold in its first week, but failed to outperform Shania Twain and Tim McGraw's releases . An MTV special, Shining Through the Rain , was also filmed for the album release . The second single Boy (I Need You) failed to hit the Billboard Hot 100, Irresistible (Westside Connection) made it to number 81 on the Hot R & B / Hip-Hop Songs . The One was supposed to be the second single, but the label changed that.
Nevertheless, the Charmbracelet World Tour: An Intimate Evening with Mariah Carey was the longest in his career at eight months. She was accompanied by the release of Bringin 'On the Heartbreak as the third single. The album was also released in Europe and Asia as a limited tour edition with bonus tracks and videos. The album was awarded platinum by the RIAA . My Saving Grace was released on a promo single for gospel radio stations along with Fly Like a Bird by The Emancipation of Mimi in May 2005 .
criticism
The album received mixed to average reviews. Allmusic's Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote that there was a problem with Carey's voice, which sounds thin and tired on the album. In addition, the production is weak and the songs are informal. He gave the album two stars out of five. Entertainment Weekly's Tom Sinclair rated the album C and wrote that there were a few delightful moments, but too much of the material on the album got stuck in the dirt on the median of the road.
