In 1992 the songwriters, Sharon Taber and Ron Gonzalez sued Mariah Carey and Afanasieff. They claimed Can't Let Go was very similar from their (unknown) song Right Before My Eyes . The plaintiffs requested tapes of the studio recordings to be obtained in order to compare the two works. The lawsuit was later withdrawn.
