The Emancipation of Mimi is the tenth studio album by US pop singer Mariah Carey , who is privately called Mimi .
Due to its good sales figures, the album is largely responsible for the singer's comeback in 2005, as it helped Mariah Carey out of the sales slump of the previous albums Glitter (2001) and Charmbracelet (2002).
The original version of the album spawned four singles ; among them are the pre-release It's Like That , the US single Shake It Off , Get Your Number with Jermaine Dupri and the ballad We Belong Together .
In 2006 the album and its singles received eight Grammy nominations. The album won the award in the category "Best Contemporary R&B Album", the song We Belong Together was named "Best R&B Song" and Mariah Carey was awarded a Grammy for her vocal performance on this song in the category "Best Female R&B Vocal Performance" excellent.
