The song was written by her and Philippe Pierre and produced by her with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. The ballad is based on Carey's character Billie Frank in the movie Glitter , with the song she describes that her mother "didn't take care of her enough". The song is also featured on Carey's 2009 compilation album The Ballads .

background

Reflections (Care Enough) was released as the fourth single on the album in late 2001, but Carey did not promote the song in the United States . Due to a dispute with Sony Music Entertainment , Carey's record company, the producer of Glitter arranged for Reflections (Care Enough) to only be released in Japan .

Carey first performed the song on the CBS show At Home for the Holidays with Mariah Carey on December 21, 2001 to an American audience. A scene from the film Glitter , where Carey (as Billie Frank) sings the song in her apartment, was used as a teaser for the film in Asia .

When performing live, Carey would often change the content of the song. In the song Carey sings: “You could have had the decency to give me up before you gave me life.” During live performances Carey sang many times: “... give me up the day you gave me life”, as a reference to the Termination of pregnancy .
