Up Out My Face is a song by the American singer Mariah Carey in a duet with the rapper Nicki Minaj . The song was written by Carey, Terius Nash and Christopher Stewart and produced by Carey, The-Dream and Tricky Stewart. The song appeared on Carey's twelfth music album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel . The song was released on February 16, 2010.

The song reached number 39 on the American hip hop charts. Mariah Carey and her husband Nick Cannon directed the music video . The video is set in a toy store and shows Carey and Minaj and their nicknames as Barbie dolls.

The original version of the song was not a duet and appeared on Carey's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel . Carey later recorded the song with the rapper Minaj.

Washington Post's Alison Stewart criticized the song: “For the past six months, Minaj has been the go-to girl for everyone and the greatest artists who desperately wanted a guest feature for their titles. Here she raps boring and unimportant on an unsuccessful remix, reason enough for criticism ”.

Music video

The music video for Up Out My Face was released in December 2009, along with the music video for Angels Cry feat. Ne-Yo , turned. Married couple Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon directed both music videos. Both music videos had their world premieres on January 27, 2010 at VEVO.com . The music video shows Carey and Minaj as different characters. In one scene, both represent Barbie dolls trying to escape their toy packaging. In another scene, both of them are dressed as nurses and are smiling and flirting with each other, both showing sexually stimulating dance moves. In another scene, Carey and Minaj are in a beauty parlor. In some scenes they both go shopping and wear long dresses. Minaj said Carey said "Everyone said 'she's doing Nicki.' But I told her [Nicki Minaj] that she is always a doll personality, that's why I love everything about her, she is my 'doll baby'. So we were both Barbie dolls and had fun, which is also evident in our delicious music video, but even more important for me is that we both have developed a personal friendship and can celebrate our successes privately or we can both learn from each other, I wish her success most. "

In feedback on the music video, MTV News’s Chris Ryan stated, “Nicki Minaj is stealing the show from Mariah Carey, she dresses like a black barbie nurse and represents an excerpt from Trey Songz LOL in a British accent.” MTV’s Shaheem Reid said: "The two sluts had fun, changed their outfits and were allowed to play with hot men and that fits best with Nicki Minaj's life and personality." American TV legend B. Scott also plays in the music video.

In the week ending January 28, 2010, the song debuted at number 97 on the US Hot R & B / Hip Hop Songs chart. Carey thus achieved the record in the hip hop charts, with the most placements by a female artist. Up Out My Face (Remix) is the 42 track that Carey was able to place in these charts. After a few weeks the song reached number 39 on the Hip Hop charts. On the Billboard Hot 100 , the song reached number 100 for only one week, making it one of the most unsuccessful titles in the history of the American charts. In South Korea , the song reached number 152 for a week. In other countries, the song did not make it into the charts at all.
