My Chick Bad is a song by the American rapper Ludacris and the American singer and rapper Nicki Minaj . In the United States, the song was released on February 23, 2010 as the second single from his eighth album, Battle of the Sexes .

In an interview with Rap-Up magazine, Ludacris said of Nicki Minaj: “She's an animated female and I'm an animated rapper myself.” Before the song was released as a single, Ludacris said in an interview: “That's one of the records that we gonna put out there. ”In the official remix version, Eve , Trina and Diamond act, while Ludacris acts as background rapper. The remix version is also included on the album Battle of the Sexes and the rapper Eve said of the remix: “I'm just happy that Luda [cris] got this together and made this happen. This is just a nice prelude to what's about to happen. I think it's about to be another movement of strong women. "

composition

The song carries a "thumping" and "dark" tone described as "spooky." Nathan Rabin of The AV Club described the song as "swaggering" and XXL magazine described it as "rambunctious". The song also contains a cheesy hook: "My chick bad / My chick 'hood / My chick do stuff that your chick wish she could." In the song, Ludacris refers to tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams , and the Tiger Woods scandal . Minaj's rap verses refer to the basketball star Lisa Leslie and to Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th , as well as the characters Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees.

The song was nominated for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group at the 2011 Grammy Awards , but lost to On to the Next One by Jay-Z and Swizz Beatz .

Commercial win

In the week ending March 13, 2010, My Chick Bad debuted at number 46 on the American Billboard Hot 100 . After all radio appearances and increasing sales figures, the song was placed at number 11 in the American charts for two weeks and only barely missed the top 10. In the American hip hop and rap charts, the song was both placed at number two. As of October 2010, the song had sold 1,246,000 times in the United States.

Appearances

The duo first sang the song at BET's Rip the Runway , where Minaj was a guest with actor Pooch Hall . While Ludacris wore a black vest, similar to the How Low music video, Minaj wore her outfit from the My Chick Bad music video. Ludacris and Minaj also rapped the song at MTV's 2010 Spring Break in Mexico. The duo also rapped the song at the BET Awards 2010 on June 27, 2010 as a medley with the remix version of All I Do Is Win .
