Woohoo is a song by the American pop singer Christina Aguilera , which she recorded with rapper Nicki Minaj .

composition

Woohoo was written by Aguilera, Minaj, Claude Kelly, Ester Dean and Polow da Don and was first released on May 18, 2010 as a download. The song contains musical influences from electronica , R&B , dancehall and hip-hop . Woohoo contains a sample of the Hungarian song Add már uram az esőt , originally by the Hungarian singer Kati Kovács from 1972. Rob Harvilla of The Village Voice described Woohoo as a mixture of the songs Milkshake by Kelis and Lip Gloss by Lil 'Mama combined with electric synth sounds. In terms of content, Woohoo deals with the subject of oral sex .

Live performances

Aguilera sang Woohoo in a medley with Binoic and Not Myself Tonight at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards . MTV News ' James Montgomery described Woohoo as "a really sexy dance number" after Aguilera's performance.

criticism

Woohoo was recorded mixed by music critics, Minaj's guest contribution and Aguilera's singing were praised. Many critics have noticed similarities to Keli's hit Milkshake . The sexual content of the song was criticized. Sara D. Anderson of AOL Music said the "provocative dancehall piece creates a successful combination of Aguilera's powerful voice with Minaj's MC tactics". Benjamin Boles from Now Magazine called the track the best track on the album Bionic and commented that Minaj's guest post saved the song. Alexis Petridis from The Guardian said "If you're going to do a five-minute song about cunnilingus, it's a good idea to enlist foul-mouthed rapper Nicki Minaj, whose bug-eyed contribution lends the proceedings an air of gripping abandon". Chris Ryan of MTV Buzzworthy described the title as "a funky sexual pop club number" and continued "In Nicki Minaj Aguilera found the perfect partner for her erotic pop adventures". He continued to refer to the title as the "dirty cousin of Rihanna's Rude Boy and Hollaback Girl ".

Becky Bain of Idolator said, "If there's one person who can take Aguilera's indecency it's Nicki Minaj, so these two are the perfect couple for this type of song."

Charts

Although the piece wasn't an official single, just promo and download single, it entered the charts. In the first week after its release, Woohoo debuted at number 46 on the Canadian Hot 100 and 79 on the American Billboard Hot 100 . Both placements were the worst of her career for Aguilera in the United States and Canada . In the second week, the single fell off the charts. Due to stronger download sales after Aguilera's live appearance at the MTV Movie Awards 2010 and the release of Bionoic , the song rose again to the Billboard Hot 100 at number 99.
