Burlesque is a soundtrack album by Christina Aguilera and Cher based on the film Burlesque . It was released on November 22, 2010 by Aguilera's record label RCA Records . The first single on the soundtrack was Express on November 19, 2010 . The album contains a total of 10 tracks, eight tracks were recorded by Aguilera and two by Cher, Cher's first recordings in seven years. The album received critical acclaim from music critics, most notably Cher's comeback titled You Haven't Seen the Last of Me .

Background and production

After Christina Aguilera finished work on her fourth studio album, Bionic , she started working on the soundtrack album for the film Burlesque with producer Tricky Stewart . Together , Aguilera and Stewart wrote the first songs on the soundtrack, Show Me How You Burlesque and Express . Stewart also produced other tracks on the album. He also produced two remakes of the soundtrack - Somethings Got a Hold On Me and Tough Lover . Songwriter Claude Kelly confirmed that he will write three songs for the film.

Singer-songwriter Sia worked with Aguilera on a title for the film. Producer Danja also worked on the soundtrack. Linda Perry and Ron Fair also participated in the work on the soundtrack. Cher recorded two songs for the album: the theme song Welcome to Burlesque and the power ballad You Haven't Seen the Last of Me , written by Diane Warren and produced by Matt Serletic. The song is Cher's first song in seven years. Aguilera said she wanted the soundtrack to sound like her 2006 album Back to Basics , with a modern sound and a “strong bass rhythm , old-school trumpets - and so on, the sound of the 20s and 30s , 40s in a modern style, in a burlesque theme ”. She also stated that the track Bound to You was her favorite track on the album; she wrote the song together with the musician Sia.

criticism

In the United States , the album debuted at number 18 on the Billboard 200, with 63,000 units sold in its first week. In iTunes , the album debuted at number first

Stephen Thomas Erlewine from Allmusic praised the album and called it Aguilera's musical comeback, after her moderate success with Bionic , the soundtrack was the continuation of her album Back to Basics . He also praised the production of the soundtrack and the success of the compositions, then said, "This album is great, especially with Christina swinging her hips on Etta James , so Aguilera creates some follow- ups to Ain't No Other Man on Burlesque ". Slant Magazine gave the album 3 out of 5 stars; Eric Henderson described the album as “a collection of post-disco boogie remakes and re-reactions,” after which he said to Aguilera: “Aguilera sings the songs perfectly in a bionic lady- marmalade style: the cheeky, controversial buzzing bump-and-grind Title Express and the really bizarre cover of Marilyn Manson's The Beautiful People show Aguilera's nature of her music and her tremendous singing talent ”. The The New York Daily News gave the album a mixed opinion and wrote "Cher is everything with their 64 years in its title, it is a good ballad comes across", but with "Christina are no emotions and feelings into being."

Publication and promotion

Aguilera used the Etta James classic Something Got a Hold On Me to promote the soundtrack . Then she released the promo single But I Am a Good Girl in November 2010 . The album was released as an album box, with a movie poster, an Ultimate Remix Deluxe Platinum Edition, a 30th minute DVD documentary Burlesque: Behind The Scenes and a 172-page harcover book about the making of the film and the soundtrack and with interesting information about Christina Aguilera and Cher. The album box was only released in strictly limited editions and should give the go-ahead for the release of the actual album. On November 18, 2010, Aguilera sang the title Bound to You and gave an interview to Jay Leno . On November 19, 2010, Aguilera gave another television interview with Ellen Degeneres, after which she sang one of the soundtracks, the Etta James classic Somethings Got a Hold On Me . Christina Aguilera presented the album's first singles, Express, live at the 2010 American Music Awards and then gave an interview with Chelsea Handler about her personal life and the film and the promotion of the soundtrack and film . That same night Aguilera sang again the Etta James classic Somethings Got a Hold on Me on Conan O'Brien's show Conan ; then she gave an interview about the promotion of the soundtrack and the film. Aguilera also performed live on Dancing With the Stars , and for the first time sang Show Me How You Burlesque .
