The song was written by Aguilera, Christopher Stewart and Claude Kelly and produced by Tricky Stewart. It was released as a single on November 19, 2010 .

In spring 2010 the demo recording with the title Spotlight made it onto the Internet . It was believed that the song would appear on Aguilera's fourth studio album, Bionic . RCA also confirmed that the song was intended for Bionic . Ultimately, the title was not included on the album. It was later renamed Show Me How You Burlesque by Spotlight and appeared on the soundtrack album for the film Burlesque .
Live performances
Aguilera sang the song in the finale of Dancing with the Stars while dancing with other female and male back-up dancers. They all wore typical burlesque clothes. Due to the erotic appearance, which was very film-oriented, Aguilera was exposed to severe criticism.

In the US , Show Me How Your Burlesque debuted at number 70 on the Billboard Hot 100 and fell off the charts a week later. In Canada the single reached number 92.
